Established in 1973, the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) marked 50 years of operations on 15th September 2023. The Company's 50th anniversary is a commemoration of 50 years of innovation, hard work and inspiration that has revolutionised and transformed us into a modern pipeline company on which the dreams and aspirations of millions of East Africans and their industries ride on.
The economies of the region have grown tremendously since then, and with them has been an explosion of demand for fuel. For instance, the company recorded a throughput volume of 8.6 m3 in the financial year ended June 30, 2023.
The oil and gas sector is continuously shifting and several great opportunities for growth are slowly surfacing. As the only white oil pipeline company, KPC plays a critical role in fostering development and growth in the area.
With the future firmly within grasp, KPC is taking the lead in partnering with regional governments, industry, and other stakeholders to propel the sector forward.
The Company is strategically positioning itself guided by the following key strategic pillars:

FIBER OPTIC CABLE (FOC)
The company commissioned FOC business in 2017. Currently, the license acquisition and preliminary dark fiber sales has been actualized.
KPC set out the primary goals and objectives for the proposed telecommunications business as follows:
- Commercialize 96 No. cores fiber optic cable that runs along the line V (Mombasa to Nairobi) and Nairobi- Eldoret/Kisumu pipeline.
- Provide KPC with a more reliable communications network for its operations.
- Diversify KPC’s business and hence create a new revenue stream.
- Enhance utilization of existing infrastructure and human resource.
- Contribute towards achievement of the Government’s Vision 2030.
The business shall:
- Improve communication services for KPC’s internal systems.
- Enhance the Country’s telecommunications network coverage and availability.
- Promote competition in the telecommunications sector.
- Create jobs.
- Benefit KPC financially in terms of return on capital and increased revenue.
MORENDAT INSTITUTE OF OIL AND GAS (MIOG)
Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG) offers training in oil & gas related courses. It was set up following a heads of state summit consisting of presidents of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan during the 3rd Heads of State Summit held in Kigali, Rwanda, on October 28, 2013. In this meeting, member states resolved to establish Centres of Excellence in the region to offer capacity building for the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP).
- Build human resource capacity in the member states to manage, operate and maintain Oil & Gas Pipelines.
- Harness internal knowledge and develop new skills required by KPC to implement the Corporate Strategic Plan – Vision 2025.
- Conduct Research and offer consultancy services in various technical fields in Oil & Gas Pipelines.
- Become a regulator of Oil & Gas Training in the Region.
LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LPG)
As envisioned by our mission of transforming lives through safe and efficient delivery of quality oil and gas. KPC has ventured into the LPG business not only for the economic gains but also cushion the common citizen from volatile LPG prices. The company is at the formative stages of setting up a 25,000MT LPG facility in Mombasa even as it seeks to set up similar facilities in other parts of the country.
LABORATORY SERVICES
KPC has established laboratories at Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu to ensure quality of her products: Done as follows:
- Before receipt into the KPC system
- During storage, handling and
- At delivery to the customers
All products are transported in batches and quality control department is vested with the responsibility of ensuring product quality is maintained.
KPC also runs a NEMA designated environmental laboratory for effluent water, soil and drinking water analyses. Our first Laboratory accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 was attained on 08th July 2016.
